The Russian President signed a law limiting foreign participation in the media
Federal law limiting the participation of foreigners in the Russian media was signed by President of Russia.
Under the new law, foreign investors cannot own more than 20% stake in the Russian media. In addition, foreign natural and legal persons, citizens of the Russian Federation with dual citizenship and stateless persons cannot be among the founders of the media. The law will come into force on 1 January 2016 (except for certain provisions established for other terms).
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Communications of Russia on October 13 announced the creation of a working group on the development of the media industry with the participation of foreign capital. The ministry stressed that it is important for the continuation of the Russian media with foreign participants.
