The period for registration of Russian citizenship until January 1, 2020
The Citizenship Act introduced a new chapter VIII.1, which provides the right to registration of citizenship of the Russian Federation, in particular, to the following persons:
• capable persons
consisting on 05.09.1991 citizens of the USSR residing in Russia up to 01.11.2002 and not acquired Russian citizenship in the prescribed manner, if they do not have foreign citizenship and a valid document confirming the right of residence in a foreign country;
• persons who had citizenship of the former Soviet Union
, and have received a Russian passport up to 01.07.2002, in which not having Russian citizenship defined, possessing the nationality of a foreign country, provided they have no valid document confirming the right of residence in a foreign country.
The validity of the rules of Chapter VIII.1 was limited and ended January 1, 2017. Persons who did not use these standards had 3 months to leave Russia, and in the case of non-fulfillment of this requirement - were subject to deportation.
Under the new law, the validity of the rules of Chapter VIII.1 is extended to January 1, 2020, which allows a specified period of living in certain categories of Russian compatriots to obtain Russian citizenship under certain rules.
