Regarding notification of termination of foreign citizenship

According to the new version of the Federal Law "Regarding Citizenship of the Russian Federation", the right for persons with dual citizenship to submit a notification of termination of foreign citizenship or the right to permanent residence in another country is provided.

Corresponding amendments have been made to the article on dual citizenship of the Federal Act on Russian Federation citizenship.

Notification of termination of foreign citizenship/right of permanent residence in another country must be submitted to the territorial body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the place of residence of the citizen in the Russian Federation.

A number of documents should also be attached to the notification:

- Copy of the passport of the citizen of the Russian Federation or other document certifying the identity of the citizen on the territory of the Russian Federation;
- Copy of the document on termination of citizenship of a foreign state/right to permanent residence in a foreign state.

The above changes are aimed at eliminating the legal gap, as previously the citizen of the Russian Federation, who notified about the presence of foreign citizenship / right of residence in another state, had no opportunity to notify about the termination of foreign citizenship or loss of the status of permanent resident in another state.
