Migrants May Be Required to Take Out a Medical Insurance Policy Before Entering Russia

The Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation has prepared draft amendments to the Labor Code, according to which the availability of a medical insurance policy becomes a prerequisite for entering into an employment contract with foreign citizens.

In addition, another draft bill according to which a medical insurance will be obligatory for the extension of a work permit was prepared.

Also the Ministry of Labor has proposed the establishment of centers for medical examination of migrants before they enter Russia. It is also expected to develop a system of voluntary health insurance to migrants during their stay in Russia, as well as more control over the issuance of medical certificates.
