Migrants Working in Transport May Be Required to First Obtain a Valid Russian Driver’s Licence

In the State Duma there is a proposed draft legislation prohibiting work in transport by migrants holding national or international driver’s licences in other countries.

Currently it is permitted to use national and international driver's licenses on the territory of Russia (in accordance with the requirements of international treaties of the Russian Federation).

In accordance with the draft legislation, it is proposed to maintain the validity of national and international driver’s licences issued in other countries only for persons who are,

• In transit through the territory of the Russian Federation,
• Working in diplomatic missions or consular offices,
• For foreign citizens temporarily staying in Russia using the services of car rental or leased vehicles.
